Austrian Audio Founders On My Latest Inner Circle Podcast

Austrian AudioRecently Harman International decided to close its AKG Vienna operation, which was a real shame after 70 years of being an industry leader in microphone and headphone technology (I bet you have at least 1 AKG product in your audio toolbox).

Usually a closure like that means that a lot of good people and industrial knowledge disappear into the ether, but not in this case. The good news is that the basic engineering and marketing core of AKG has restarted as Austrian Audio and new designs and products are expected soon.

I spoke to Austrian Audio CEO Martin Seidl, CTO Thomas Gmeiner, and head of marketing and PR Kent Iverson via Skype from Vienna where they laid out their plans for the new company.

On the intro I’ll talk about how the radio landscape across several countries may be changing soon as the huge station group iHeartRadio faces bankruptcy, and I’ll provide an overview of one of the lowest-tech but most used pieces in your studio – the microphone stand.
