Candy Shop Management Founders On My Latest Inner Circle Podcast

Candy Shop ManagementMy guests on the podcast this week are artist managers John Mathiason and Anthony Bland, who collectively have over 50 years of music industry experience. Since starting Candy Shop Management in 2009, they have navigated the careers of The Rocketboys, The Mowgli’s, Lincoln Durham, and many others.

Antony came from the label and publishing world where he ran the international department at Chrysalis Music Publishing in the late 90’s before moving to American Recordings where he served as the director of A&R for eleven years. John started his management career guiding the career of the multi-platinum band Sponge, and later went on to handling the endorsement deals for Soundgarden and Alice in Chains.

We had a great conversation about being a manager for today’s artist, breaking a new band, the role of streaming and playlists in artist development, the current effect of radio airplay, and whole a lot more. These guys are awesome!

On the intro I’ll take a look at fact that A-list artists are starting to release 2 singles at a time and why that strategy actually makes sense, as well as an analysis of the 39 songs that made it to the Top 5 on the Billboard charts last year.
