Al has worked with so many of the real legends in the music business, including Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Jefferson Airplane, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Toto, Bob Dylan, Steely Dan, Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Diana Krall, Celine Dion, Paul McCartney, and hundreds more.

His new book is called Al Schmitt On The Record: The Magic Behind The Music (written with Maureen Droney), and it covers his 6 decades in the business. It even has a forward written by Sir Paul McCartney himself.

In the interview we spoke about his book and some of the things that he didn’t include, his favorite instrument to record, functioning in a world without equalizers, the secret to keeping up with technology, the differences between vintage gear and what we have today, and so much more that you’ll find extremely interesting.
