8 Spotify Playlist Secrets

The secret to at least some success on Spotify comes from being getting on one or more playlists, but that’s easier said than done. George Goodrich of Playlist Push had some excellent insider playlist secrets about how to succeed on the service. Here are just a few.

1. Long albums with lots of short songs. Short songs will have fans play it more so you’ll make more, but they’ll also keep someone from tuning out prematurely.

2. Get to the point in under 30 seconds. The days of the long intro are over. If you don’t capture the listener’s attention in the first 5 seconds, they’re probably on to the next song.

3. Start big and end big. Get to the hook as quickly as you can, and don’t be afraid to end on a hook either.

4. Use Spotify For Artists correctly. The thing to remember is that you have to submit your songs at least 7 days before they’re released to the platform in order to gain any of the free promotion that’s offered.

5. Spotify followers gets you playlist action. Having Spotify followers means that your latest release will automatically populate the customized Release Radar playlist of every follower (provided that you use Spotify for Artists correctly).

6. Don’t overlook your cover art. It may only be a thumbnail but it might be enough to catch someone’s attention, or turn them off too.

7. Repackage your older songs. Don’t be afraid to repackage older songs in new album or EP releases. You can change the cover art, but be sure to keep the same ISRC code unless if you didn’t change anything on the song.

8. Your music genre is important. If possible, own your niche no matter how small it is. It’s better to be the biggest fish in grind metal instead of just an also-ran in the overall metal category.

These are just some of the playlist secrets from George. You can read more here.
