You Can Now Add Audio Clips To Twitter

Twitter is one of those social networks that you either love or hate. For many artists, it’s an important link to their fans. For others, it’s just seemingly endless drivel. The one thing you can’t accuse the company of any more is standing still though. In a rollout to selected users, Twitter has now added something that people have been asking for a long time – embedded audio clips.

Twitter announced that it was launching the option to add 140-second audio clips to tweets on Monday, but only to a small group of iOS users.

The way it works is that if you want to add an audio clip to a tweet, users will be able to tap the new Wavelengths icon at the bottom right of the tweet composer, record your audio, and the tweet will pop up with your profile photo on the screen along with a progress bar on the bottom. The audio then appears in stream and in tweets with your profile image in the center of the playback.

You might think that 140 seconds isn’t very much, but anyone who’s done any broadcasting knows that 2 minutes and 20 seconds can be a lifetime depending on the content. Twitter does make it easy to post a longer conversation though, since once you hit the time limit a new tweet automatically because to create a thread.

While this new feature might not be for everyone (especially experienced users), audio clips are perfect for artists when it comes to promoting their music. If you’ve had a lot of fans on the platform but weren’t sure what to tweet or just didn’t like the network, audio clips might be a reason to change your mind.

As you might expect, Twitter explained all about the new feature in a tweet thread, which you can access here.
