Download Your Spotify Streaming Data History Now Before You Lose It

Many artists are obsessed with their streaming data while others don’t care all that much. Either way, if you’ve been on Spotify for more than 2 years, you only have a few days left before the streaming service deletes your data history from before December 31st, 2020. Even if you’re not that much into data, it’s something that you might want take a look at sometime down the line, so its best to download it now before July 1st while you can.

You’re probably thinking, “Why would Spotify do such a thing?” The company is actually streamlining how it presents your streaming data, and eliminating some slightly used categories as well. A not-talked-about side effect is that it can cut its costs on data compilation and storage along the way.

According to Spotify, the change will let it introduce new analytics features under Spotify for Artists that include:

  • Custom date range filters on more pages
  • New engagement states on your Songs page
  • New fan segmentation of your active audience
  • More historical data on your Audience engagement page
  • A new roster management view

Among the analytics that the company will eliminate include ‘Similar artists’ and ‘Compare to other artists’.

To Download

You can download your data history by clicking on the down arrow on your song pages. Downloading will only work on the web app and not on mobile.

This is another example of why your website is so important. Online platforms make changes all the time that you have no control over and usually it doesn’t work out well on the artist’s end. Although it wouldn’t apply in this case, your website is the only thing that you can truly control. It changes when you want. It updates when you want. It adapts to you and your music and not the whims of a faceless corporation.

It’s worth saving your streaming data history on Spotify, so be sure to download it before it goes away forever.
